Red, White, and Blue Today

Patriot Day was a day ago so why am I in Red White and Blue?
I was supposed to wear that yesterday, could I have missed my cue?
Or is it that this was a conscious choice, something I planned to do?

You see I believe in the response, not the tragedy, but the reaction.
Its not about the calamities, but rather the follow-on action
And so I wear my colors TODAY, as a reminder of that abstraction

Patriot Day was yesterday and that I cannot deny
I wear my colors on the day after, primarily as a way to imply
That every day, on "We The People," I surely can rely
And what else would you expect from one born on the FIFTH of July!



I'm wearing my Red, White, and Blue today to remind myself that America is defined not by the tragedies, but rather by how we have lived and responded in the wake of those tragedies.
