Friday afternoon the phone rings in the Archives and on the line is my sister--my bride with a quick question.
"What is a WHIP?..." she started
Of course, at this point, all of your minds are racing, but honestly, mine wasn't and before she could even finish with "...in baseball" I already knew that she was in fact inquiring about Walks + Hits per Innings Pitched being the baseball stat man that I am.
It didn't even strike me as funny until long after we hung up that she had just asked me what a whip was? Man oh man, I get a set up line like that and I'm not ready with a witty punch line? Next time I'll be ready.
"What's a WHIP?"
"Simple sweetie, thats We + Him In Perpetuity = the only WHIP that gets cracked in our marriage.
