A Bulwark Never Failing

On Wednesday I sought strength and solice in Psalm 46. See post:

Today we celebrate Reformation Sunday and opened our service with Luther's own hymn, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God." Its a hymn he wrote close to 500 years ago, and is a paraphrase of that same Psalm 46. As I stood amidst the congregation singing with the organ on the opening verse, the word bulwark struck a chord with me. It is not used in all of the many english translations that exist of the hymn that Luther penned in German and though I'm sure I've sung it that way before, it stood out to me today.

It is comforting to know that our God is an awesome God. Our God is a Mighty Fortress. Our God is a bulwark...NEVER FAILING.
